After the Hybrid Pleated Mask, Hybrid Custom Masks and the Hybrid Boxy Mask, I created a Hybrid Mask Frame – as an alternative for all those who cannot breathe well with Double Masks, yet don’t find a gaplessly fitting, slip-free respirator or surgical mask. Due to a reverse pleat, this Mask Frame fits perfectly – even without nose wire! ➔
In addition to the illustrated instructions for sewing my brand new, not only gaplessly and slip-free fitting, but also very spacious Hybrid Boxy Mask, I have now created a highly detailed step-by-step picture tutorial for beginners! ➔
Now that I’ve gone through all the possibilities to customize my original Hybrid Mask for a wide range of face shapes, needs and preferences, I finally created a new cloth mask pattern with an open chin dart (or twisted pleat). Similar to 3D, Boxy, Origami, Japanese or Octagon shapes, which form a square box, the Hybrid Boxy Mask forms a triangular box which does not touch the mouth or nosetip and offers plenty of space for breathing, speaking or singing. ➔
For those who want to redecorate their walls in November or to buy their Christmas gifts early, I’m having a nice surprise: My Posterlounge shop has a discount code, »LUCKHAUS2021«, with amazing 20% savings available for the whole month, on all articels, such as posters, prints, wall stickers, canvas, wood, foam, aluminum or acrylic prints in formats from 13 x 18 cm (from € 6.95 5.56) over 30 x 40 cm (from 9.95 7.96) to 60 x 80 cm (from € 22.95 18.36)! ➔
Some maskers insert disposable filter materials (e.g. Filti) between the inner and outer layers of reusable cloth masks. For this reason, my Hybrid Mask has a filter opening! This offers the advantage of combining decent fit (through mask pattern) and filter efficiency (through disposable filters), but the disadvantage that filters are often complicated to insert, rarely cover the whole surface and easily slip. For me and my family, double masking, i.e. wearing FFP2 / KN95, surgical or self-stapled, same-pattern filter masks underneath, seems like a better option. Lately though, a lovely mask maker mentioned how complicated double masking is for kids, and I finally had an idea: Filter frames! ➔
Together with tracker Stefanie Argow from HiddenTracks and Dr. Sarah Kiefer from Stadtwildtiere.de, the Citizen Science Project of the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW), I designed two notebooks and a gym bag, for their advertising and as an identification aid for wild animals whose tracks can be found in the city of Berlin. ➔

Since I first published my pattern for sewing the Hybrid Cloth Mask, which fits gapless (even without nosepiece!) and reliably stays in place, I’ve been asked about adjustments for special shapes and needs. In this post, I introduce a selection of these customized Hybrid patterns, and every now and then (last March 8th, 2021), I add new ones! ➔
If you take a closer look, there are so many ways to attach a face mask to your ears or head! After looking into masks in great detail over the past couple of weeks and having all these little sketches for mask tying techniques on my desk, I finally drew an infographic that shows all the different ways to tie a cloth mask with ear bands or head ties. ➔
Since I first published pattern and instructions for my Hybrid Cloth Mask, which fits gapless yet roomy and reliably stays in place, I’ve been asked about making a detail tutorial for beginners and visual learners, but as a video needs at least 2-3 quiet days and a picture tutorial was possible to just make inbetween, I decided to go with that for now! ➔
For my own production, I optimized the pattern and manufacture of the cloth mask, to make it fit gapless and fog-free around nose, cheeks and chin and reliably stay in place, so it doesn’t slide up the eyes or down the nose. Individual parts such as wire, filter and ties are very easy to replace, plus the mask is quick and simple to sew, wash and iron. ➔

We’re taking a little break for summer – and look forward to September, when we’ll continue fresh and rested, and when I can finally show you all the wonderful projects I’ve been working on but am not supposed to show yet!
In August, the amazing Posterlounge is celebrating its 15th birthday! I’d like to wholeheartedly congratulate them, and I’m also happy to announce that all month long, there’s a 15% discount on everything (amongst many other posters, my own illustrations, infographics und life drawings!) with the code “HAPPY15”. Btw, I’m on board for 12 years :) ➔
Via Instagram, I discovered lots of cards which DIY bloggers crafted with the stamp and die set “Gerti geht baden” (Gerti goes swimming) by Charlie & Paulchen – and some of them are so amazing, unique and full of stunning ideas that I just can’t stop looking, so I thought it would be nice to show them here and recommend those bloggers! ➔
Gerti, the DIY dressup doll I designed, styled and illustrated as stamps and dies for the online shop Charlie & Paulchen, just got her third set of clothes and accessories for the summer! Once again, I’ve been drawing for the Wuppertaler Stadtsparkasse, this time a black-and-white view of the buildings of the University of Wuppertal (BUGH) on Grifflenberg. My illustration will soon be printed in ten different colour schemes on the front of a special mastercard for students and staff of the university. For this project, I had to work very different from my usual process – not only without outlines, but also without people, details or colours, but precisely after a photograph, with correct perspectives – and it actually was a challenge, but a lot of fun as well!
This was one of my favourite graphic commissions those past few months: A full wedding design including a logo (in which every tiny detail has a particular, very personal reason), CI, stamps and seals (all of this not only for the big day, but also for all sorts of everyday purposes lateron) and, of course, all the stationary from save-the-date to invitation (with a little map and RSVPs) and thank you cards – all that for a very special couple I had the pleasure to get to know a lot better through this really nice project. Thank you very much for that! ➔

Next to some awesome new projects I am not supposed to talk about yet, I started experimenting with new styles again last month, very different from my usual, very time consuming outlines. So, this is the new version of an old fairytale page I meant to rework for ages. ➔
Lily Lux liebt Chic Chica! ➔
I slowly started to refurbish my website (it was about getting time for that!), and found some quite nice things I never showed – but they seem to deserve a nice place in my portfolio at least. For example all these Corporate Identities of places, stores and places I developped and visualized for Die wunderbare Welt der Lily Lux and that I would highly appreciate to find in my own world! Here in the blog I’m going to introduce some of my fictional favourites with little stories… I hope you enjoy.
The Illustratoren Organisation just published a very helpful brochure that establishes some proven rules for a good collaboration between clients and illustrators and describes the basics of a flawless workflow. The brochure was conceptualized and designed by by Anja Nolte and can be ordered for free at the IO or downloaded as a PDF. I feel flattered that some of my work is printed in there!
I’ll take part in this years sedcard campaign by the Illustratoren Organsation again, in the advertising department. The card will be sent out by IO and also available at all the fairs, exhibitions and events the IO participates. On my card you can see one of my all-time favourites: the supergirl I developped, illustrated and designed as 11 colourful panels for the jewellery chain SIX in cooperation with Hochhaus agency. The Sixgirl is used in various ways, for advertising and decoration. ➔
For our Lily Lux Notizbuch (Hoffmann & Campe 2010), I illustrated a practical sheet that makes it easy to identify the tracks of 36 common animals, such as eagle, beaver, bear, badger, squirrel, moose, duck, owl, ferret, frog, fox, rabbit, dog, hedgehog, cat, crow, cow, lynx, marten, mouse, otter, horse, rat, partridge, deer, heron, gerbil, red deer, sheep, pig, sparrow, pigeon, raccoon, weasel, wolf and goat. Next to this, we explain the behaviour of animals during winter. ➔
My Mayfair Girl will represent the Illustrator’s Corner of the Zentrum Bild on the annual Frankfurt Book Fair (October 6th to 10th, 2010) – right there, online and on the application forms! ➔
Lily Lux and her authors are exceedingly delighted to now introduce the Lily Lux Notizbuch and want to use the opportunity to thank some gorgeous people that supported us and our project in one or the other way:
First of all, our thanks go to Hoffman und Campe Verlag who made this project possible, and especially to our reader Ulla Mothes. And once again, very special thanks are due to Henning Mühlinghaus for countless, very creative and constructive thursday evenings and some more specialist knowledge. Furthermore (in no particular order) we thank: Angelika and Reinhard Luckhaus, Helga Klesse, Anette Schaumlöffel and Jonathan Schaumlöffel, Frederik Stolz, Oliver Beicht, Vivian Maempel, Bruni Kintscher, Tanja Kleiner and Eliseo Milonia, Tanja Krüger, Bärbel Endter and Bernd Jakobi, Pauline and Nina. You magnificent people! ♥ ➔
Previewing some of the patterns I developped especially for Die wunderbare Welt der Lily Lux. ➔
With the very best wishes for a great and heartwarming christmas and an awesome new year to all of you! ➔
Sixgirl is flying out to the 3.000 SIX stores now – and we’re looking look forward to visit her in at least some of them! ➔
Sixgirl is ready: A real supergirl mit with bewitching superpowers as a shopdecoration for SIX Accessories Cologne. Soon she will fly through 3.000 shops all over Europe! ➔

I’m so happy that my Animal Tracks Pin was featured on the Pinterest “Today” page on February 24th! Unfortunately, I missed it, but I think it’s all the more great that these lovely people of Pinterest told me about it. Thank you! ➔
